Responsorial Psalm - March 22, 2020

Rejoice, O hearts that seek the Lord. Look to the LORD in his strength; seek to serve him constantly. You descendants of Abraham, his servants, sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!

He remembers forever his covenant which he made binding for a thousand generationsB Which he entered into with Abraham and by his oath to Isaac. Alleluia, alleluia. This is the day the LORD has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.

And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his Body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive.

Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see. How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory? As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther.

And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. All rights reserved. The psalms that you have are fantastic. A book of the psalms would be even better. We fell behind a bit with the Psalms over the Summer. Sorry about that. Every blessing. We are really enjoying trying your psalms in our parish. It has made a really refreshing change for us to use with guitars.

We have been asked to sing the sequences for Pentecost and Corpus Christi. I wonder if you may be planning to produce any music for either of these? God bless….

Daily Reading for Wednesday, April 15th, 2020

Why do you stare at us as if it was by some power or holiness of our own that we made this man walk? The God of Abraham, of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus whom you handed over to death and denied before Pilate, when even Pilate had decided to release him.

You rejected the Holy and Just One, and you insisted that a murderer be released to you. You killed the Master of life, but God raised him from the dead and we are witnesses to this.

It is his Name, and faith in his Name, that has healed this man whom you see and recognize. The faith that comes through Jesus has given him wholeness in the presence of all of you. Yet I know that you acted out of ignorance, as did your leaders. Repent, then, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out and the time of refreshment may come by the mercy of God, when he sends the Messiah appointed for you, Jesus.

For he must remain in heaven until the time of the universal restoration which God spoke of long ago through his holy prophets. Moses foretold this when he said: The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you shall listen to him in all that he says to you.

Whoever does not listen to that prophet is to be cut off from among his people. In fact, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel onward, have announced the events of these days.

You are the children of the prophets and heirs of the covenant that God gave to your ancestors when he said to Abraham: All the families of the earth will be blessed through your descendant. It is to you first that God sends his Servant; he raised him to life to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.

O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is your name over all the earth! What is man that you should be mindful of him, or the son of man that you should care for him?

You have made him little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet. All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, the fishes of the sea, and whatever swims the paths of the seas.

Prayer for the Care of the Poor

The two disciples told what had happened on the road and how Jesus made himself known when he broke bread with them. As they went on talking about this, Jesus himself stood in their midst. And he said to them, "Peace to you. Look at my hands and feet and see that it is I myself. Touch me and see for yourselves that a ghost has no flesh and bones as I have. In their joy they didn't dare believe and were still astonished.

So he said to them, "Have you anything to eat? He took it and ate it before them. Then Jesus said to them, "Remember the words I spoke to you when I was still with you: Everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms had to be fulfilled.

And he went on, "You see what was written: the Messiah had to suffer and on the third day rise from the dead. Then repentance and forgiveness in his name would be proclaimed to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Now you shall be witnesses to this. When Peter saw the people, he said to them, "Fellow Israelites, why are you amazed at this? The psalms are rich in imagery, feeling, and symbolism. They powerfully express the suffering and pain, the hope and trust of people of every age and culture. Above all the psalms sing of faith in God, of revelation and redemption. They enable the assembly to pray in the words that Jesus himself used during his life on earth.

responsorial psalm for today

Jesus, who knew anguish and the fear of death, 'offered up prayer and entreaty, aloud and in silent tears, to the one who had the power to save him out of death… Although he was Son, he learned to obey through suffering; but having been made perfect, he became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation…' Hebrews In the psalms the members of the assembly pray in the voice of Christ, who intercedes on their behalf before the Father. The Church, like Christ, turns again and again to the psalms as a genuine expression of grief and of praise and as a sure source of trust and hope in times of trial.

Priests and other ministers are, therefore, to make an earnest effort through an effective catechesis to lead their communities to a clearer and deeper grasp of at least some of the psalms provided for the funeral rites.

The psalms are designated for use in many places in the funeral rites for example, as responses to the readings, for the processions, for use at the vigil for the deceased. Since the psalms are songs, whenever possible, they should be sung. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me. To you, O Lord, I lift my soul. No one who waits for you, O Lord, will ever be put to shame. The Lord is my light and my salvation. I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living. Hide not your face from me. My soul is thirsting for the living God: when shall I see him face to face?

Athirst is my soul for God, the living God. When shall I go and behold the face of God? Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why do you sigh within me? Hope in God! The Lord is kind and merciful. In your goodness, help us to heal this wound by working to alleviate the suffering and pain of the poor. Responsorial Psalm PsalmR. Rise up, LORD!

Do not forget the poor. God, lift up your hand! Do not forget the poor! But you do see; you take note of misery and sorrow; you take the matter in hand.

To you the helpless can entrust their cause; you are the defender of orphans. The LORD is king forever; the nations have vanished from his land. You listen, LORD, to the needs of the poor; you strengthen their heart and incline your ear. You win justice for the orphaned and oppressed; no one on earth will cause terror again. Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day.

He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. An individual or group reflection on the Scripture readings or the theme of poverty may be offered here.
